Change is coming

There is just no time for blogging these days!  After work I'm just exhausted, and getting the time to sit down and work on the computer is far and in between.  I'm doing good to get my workout in and have dinner.

I don't remember an almost 2 year being so time consuming! lol  Luci is just one of a kind, and keeps us on our toes constantly!  I feel like I'm being punished for all those times that I said " my kids will never act like that."  Luci is everything I ever said my kids wouldn't do and more!  You know that lady in the grocery store who's kids are pulling everything off the shelf and screaming if she won't open the cookie box and let them eat right now!  Well, that's me.... I apologize!  The girl just doesn't take no for an answer.

Just to update on our happenings....

Bre is running Cross Country and loving it.  She loves to run.  Her district meet is at the end of this month and she's looking forward to that.  We also have a couple of races coming up together.  We are running the survivor mud run this month, and then the color in motion 5k in November to benefit the Make a Wish foundation.  I'm very excited about those!

We have also decided to put our house on the market to sell.  I honestly never thought I would ever leave that place.  We have so many memories and it was also Colt's home.  It's very difficult for me to do, but I think it will be a good thing.  There are certain things I can't seem to let go of or change.  Colt's room for instance.  Luke can't have all Colt's things in there forever.  Colt was 3, Luke is 8.  He needs a big boy room, but I can't seem to change anything.  The change will be good for us, and will give us the opportunity to start fresh.  I was nervous about it at first, but I'm starting to get excited.

Life is so good these days.  We have a great family, amazing friends, new friends, new acitivites, and we are loving life.  We've never been happier.

REBEL RACE

Bre and I competed in our first mud run on the 18th.  It was such an amazing experience.  I honestly never in my life thought I would ever be at the point where I could finish a 5K, much less a 5K with extreme obstacles!  It was awesome!  Overall I finished the race 34th out of about 540 women, and Bre finished 24th.  She was a beast!

I am so proud of myself.  My goal was just to finish the race, complete all the obstacles, and run the entire race.  My goal was accomplished, and I can't wait for the next one!

We're planning to run the Dirty Girl Mud Run in October which benefits breast cancer, and then we're forming a team to run the Warrior Dash in April.

I'm loving this lifestyle change, and am still wondering why I sat around for so long doing nothing!  I never knew being fit would feel so good!

Mini Beach Vacation!

Hello from Port Aransas! We decided Wednesday to take a mini vacation to the South Texas coast. My bestfriend and her family are also here.

We've had an amazing time just relaxing and escaping the hustle and bustle of being home.

I'm so thankful for an amazing husband and grateful for his spontaneity. We love just kicking back and enjoying life.

Luci's first time at the ocean!

This is one very sleepy girl after her first day on the beach.

Our sweet family!

Wiped out gain after another full day in the beach. She didn't even make it off the beach today!

Summer's wrapping up...

What a busy couple of week!   I am really regretting not taking a vacation this summer, but I honestly don't know when we would've had the time.  With Breanna spending nearly her entire summer doing some kind of ministry, and Jolea having surgeries it's been crazy busy!

Jolea ended up having to go back into surgery due to a severe infection.  I take most of the blame for it.  Since we brought her home she has always had a chronic infection up inside her sinus area that has always caused her to have bad breath.  Myself, not having any experience with a child with a cleft just assumed it was from food, or sinus infection or whatever.  Well, after her bone graft it got the worst it had ever been.  Her Dr. had to go back in and clean it out, and the infection had even blown a hole in the back side of her nose and had also completely messed up the bone graft and it had to be removed.  :(  Jolea was one very unhappy girl.  She now has to have the bone graft redone in December as long as the infection is cleared up.

The good thing is we found out that the infection is being caused by a very rare bacteria and since it had never been cultured she has never been on the right antibiotics to treat it.  For the first time since we brought her home from Vietnam Jolea doesn't have the bad breath!  We are extremely excited about this!  She'll have been on the right antibiotic for 20 days after she finishes it this week.  I'm praying that it doesn't return.  If it does, her Dr. is bringing in an infectious disease Dr. to figure out how to kill this bacteria.  It is obviously very strong and resistant to have had survived this long.

This has been a long hard road for our sweet girl, and she is ready to get past all of this.

Here are some random photos from out summer!  I'm so sad to see the summer end, but I'm also looking forward to an awesome fall!  Things get busy with school activities, but we are definitely ready to kick off a better year!

We attended the Ranger game with our family and had a wonderful time.  We love the Rangers!

Me and my sweet boy!  We had to endure the heat for a short time, but we had amazing seats!
My beautiful daughter loves turkey legs!

Bre with her best friend and cousin!  Love these guys!

Nothing better than a nice swim on a really hot day!

Luke and his fish.  Luke has fished nearly everyday this summer.  It's the first thing he does in the morning and usually the last thing he does in the evening.  Notice his glove?  He has been finned one too many times.  :)

Frustrated!

Due to some complications Jolea is heading back into to surgery Wednesday morning.  She has developed an infection that the antibiotics can't clear up.  She has some resistance to antibiotics for some reason.  Since we brought her home she's always had a tough time getting rid of ear infections, strep throat, sinus infections, etc... So I'm not real surprised that the antibiotics aren't working.  Lets just hope they get this thing cleared up! Very soon!

The surgery should be fairly short, and we will take her home right after.  Then we'll be rushing back to Arlington to watch the Rangers.  Sadly, Jolea is going to be missing the game, but instead she's having a movie night with her MawMaw.  She seems to be ok with that.

So here we go back for another surgery!  So frustrating!  Can anything ever go our way...really?  I guess seconds times the charm these days!  Grrrrr

Good deal of the day

If you're a fan of shutterfly, don't forget to check your email!  I had a reminder about a $10 credit to any order of $10 or more.  I used it to order a really cute Christmas ornament, and also some prints.  I love shutterfly!

She's Home

My girl has made it home from the reservation with a case of what looks like poison ivy and a lot of awesome stories to tell! I was so happy to see her.  :)  This was such a life changing experience for her.  You can check out the updates from the mission team at http://www.fbccm.com.  Part of the team is still there.

Ramblings

It's been a nice, nice week here in Texas. The days have been cooler and nights have been extra nice. It's been especially cool on my evening runs. I've even broke my one mile record, and lost a couple extra pounds this week! Total weight loss is almost 20 pounds! I'm beyond excited. It's almost time to clean out my closet again except this time I may not have anything left. I think I need to do some shopping. Did I mention the last time I cleaned out my closet I cleaned out not one, but three 30 gallon trash bags of clothes that no longer fit. I ended up donating those to a local church.
So Bre and I have our first race together coming up in August. I'm super excited and I think she is too. This whole race thing is such a new territory for me, but I'm really enjoying it and especially enjoying the training and the benefits that come with it! I'm pretty much doing some kind of workout at least 6 days a week whether it be running, cycling, cardio/aerobics, or strength training. It definitely has made a difference in how in feel. Just simple things like working in the flower beds and outside are much more enjoyable. I can actually do things without wearing out so fast, and being so sore the next day I can't walk.

With the exercise has also came a diet change. Let me just say that I do not diet, I just eat well. I have cut way down on eating fast food and processed foods. I won't say I've completely cut it out, because sometimes we are just out and about and grabbing something quick is too easy. I do however make better choices of what I order and how much I eat. I usually stick to a strict 1200 calorie diet. I log everything I eat, and I usually give myself one day a week where I don't log and enjoy a few extra calories on that day. I've definitely seen what a lifestyle change can do for you and also for the people you love!

One of my favorite new finds is shakeology. I started drinking shakeology as a meal replacement for breakfast several months ago and what a difference in my day it makes. It gives me energy, keeps me full, and it's packed with superfoods! I usually drink it for breakfast or dinner, or as just a recovery drink after a good workout. I love it so much and stand behind it that I am now an independent beachbody coach. I signed up to get a discount off of my order every month, but I've made a few sales in the process too!

Nothing better...

There's nothing better than getting up early and having some quiet time before the kids get up.  It's just me, my beverage, and my bible.  This morning my thoughts and prayers are with my daughter and the rest of the mission team out in Arizona where they are preparing for bible clubs today with the Navajo children.

Bre left Thursday to head to Arizona for 10 days. I'm counting the days until she gets home, but I'm so proud of her.  This is no vacation for her.  They are in dangerous territory spreading the gospel to people who desperately need it.  Each night they are sleeping in tents enclosed by high fence and barbed wire for their safety.  Please keep her and the rest of her team in your prayers this week.  Pray for the Navajo people and also for the safety of the team.

Destination Disney in Color....Silver

Yeah!! It's Destination Disney in Color once again, and todays color is silver.  Doing this link up is definitely going to make me color conscience while I'm taking photos on our next trip!  I'm having so much fun going back through all our vacation photos on the computer.

During the Christmas season you can find many of the costumes, and floats adorned with silver accents.  Like the float above and Cinderella's gown below.

And at one of our most favorite parks you'll find this huge silver ball!  Which is, of course, spaceship earth!

Hope you enjoyed todays Destination Disney in Color!!

Greatness is earned, never awarded

I've recently taken on a love of running and working out.  Working out and getting healthy have never been a top priority for me, and I often used the "no time" as and excuse.  I started working out with a group of ladies at church and it has now become a passion for me.  Not only do I love getting healthy, but I also enjoy encouraging and pushing others to do the same.  I love the turbo fire workout by beachbody, and also the shakeology drinks.  I started around February and have since dropped 16 pounds.  I'm in the best shape I've been in since I had my first child 14 years ago!  My diet has changed tremendously and I log everything I eat.  Keeping up with my food intake makes a big difference.

I will say that staying healthy and fit has been quite a challenge.  It's not easy, but does get easier as you habits and lifestyle begin to change.  It not only improves you physically, but also mentally.  I never knew how emotionally healthy exercising could be until now.  I just encourage you to keep it up, and make time.  Even a short 15 minute workout is better than nothing!

My goal is to train and run in the Walt Disney World marathon.  I've actually got my first mile down to 8:22, and have signed up for my first race in August.  It's a 5k obstacle course, and involves a lot of mud!  This race is mostly just for fun, but my goal is to simply finish it!  I have a long journey ahead before I reach my goal, but I'm so determined to get there! I can do this!  I'll be keeping you all posted!

Destination Disney: Teal/Turquoise

My love for all things Disney has tempted me to join in with Destination Disney in color!  The week I decide to join in and the color is teal or turquoise!  This was a little difficult!

The Castle changes so many colors and is so beautiful during the Christmas season!

JoJo has a little teal/turquoise on her hat...
Turquoise dress on our face painter. :)

And Luke's most favorite princess Jasmine sports a teal/turquoise outfit.

Surgery Success!

Jolea's surgery was a success so far.  Surgery was Wednesday morning.  She went back and it lasted around 3 hours.  They went into the right hip to remove bone and pack it into the gap in her jaw bone.  He did say there was a much larger area than he thought to be filled, and also there was a significant amount of scar tissue from her surgeries performed in Vietnam.  He seem very optimistic on the success, but did stress the importance of her diet for the next several weeks.

As far as the diet, that is really our only issue.  Jolea has done fairly well with it, but she loves food and gets very frustrated at times.  We've made several different kinds of soups, and have tried blending up all kinds of things, including cake!  Whatever works!  We went and got her a big container of Pho this weekend and she was thrilled.  Definitely her favorite thus far.  She has 6 more days of the liquids only diet then we can go to soft foods such as mashed potatoes, ice cream, macaroni, and that sort of thing.  Let me just say she is counting down the days!

She spent one night in the hospital and was able to come home the next morning because she was doing so well.  The day of surgery she was up walking around with little soreness.  The soreness did set in the next day though.  She was still able to get up and walk, but did need a little more assistance and was moving much slower.  Her mouth was also pretty sore and she didn't speak much for a couple of days.   That was kind of nice. No complaints on that one :D

She is doing great now, and getting around wonderful!  Still a little slower than normal, but improving everyday!  Thanks for all the emails, texts, and phone calls from all our family, friends, and online friends!  We appreciated all the prayers!

Jolea walked herself right into the OR.  She was scared a bit!  Even refused the silly juice!

Here she is right before surgery!

Jolea's Big Day

Tomorrow is Jolea's big day!  She will have her bone graft done on her jaw.  They will be taking bone from her hip and packing it into the jaw where she is missing bone.  Right now the cleft has left an area about an inch wide where there is no bone.  A couple of her front teeth are actually not even anchored.

She is extremely excited.  This surgery will close all the holes in her mouth!  Please keep her in your prayers!  Pray there is little pain, and also that the bone will grow and we will not have to do this surgery again.

She will be on a liquid diet for at least 10 days, so if you have recipes or ideas for meals that she can drink from a cup I would love to hear them!  You can leave them in the comments or email me. :)
