I wanted to add this into our journal so when Jolea is older she will know why we started this journey. Joey and I had always talked about wanting to adopt internationally but never imagined that we would ever be able to. I remember watching the adoption story many years ago with Joey, and this is when he saw a little girl adopted from China. From then on we new someday that we would adopt. Our first child Breanna was born in January 1998 and our second child Colt was born in October 2001. By this time adoption was far from our minds. In May 2003 Colt was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma and we began a very intense course of treatment that consisted of chemo, radiation, transplants. One month after he was diagnosed I found out I was pregnant. I oftened wondered why God would want me to pregnant at such a stressful time, but He had a plan. He knew we would need Luke through all of this to keep us strong. Colt lost his battle with cancer in Dec. 2004, just 11 days before Christmas. We were devastated, but we kept going, and we have made it through by the grace of God. In January 2006 I started thinking about adopting again but wondered how we would ever afford it. We felt God urging us to take this leap of faith so in May we filled out our application with Childrens Hope International and got our first approval. That is when the roller coaster of paperchasing, and waiting began. In August we saw our daughter for the first time on CHI's waiting child list. We still didn't have our CIS approval so we just prayed that if this was our daughter she would not be placed with another family. In September she still had not been placed by another family so we continued to pray. On September 20, I received a phone call from our Vietnam program Director telling us that if we wanted to still adopt her they would place her with us even though we had not gotten our CIS approval. Of course, we were so excited and accepted her referral. So here we are on the journey of a lifetime to Vietnam to get our daughter Nguyen Thi Ngoc Mai who was born on Jan. 31, 2004.
